Instead of being released into the atmosphere, CO₂ is compressed, then dehydrated to turn the gas into a liquid at the manufacturing site.
The liquid gas is gathered from the facility and transported in a steel pipeline to the sequestration site.
CO₂ is injected into the ground underneath an impermeable layer of rock, for safe and permanent sequestration. An intensive permitting, monitoring, and reporting regime ensures the CO₂ remains safely & permanently sequestered.
This proven technology captures carbon dioxide (CO₂) and sequesters it, when it would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere and contribute to climate change.
DTE Vantage has the expertise and experience to safely capture, compress, and liquefy CO₂ onsite at your facilities. We manage the transportation of the compressed CO₂ via steel pipelines to sites we have secured following the permitting and regulatory processes of states where we operate.
At the sequestration site, we inject the compressed CO₂ deep underground into porous rock where it will remain naturally and permanently sequestered. These reservoirs are far beneath the surface and isolated from usable groundwater resources.
While DTE Vantage continues to innovate CCS processes, it is a proven and effective technology: approximately 60 million tons of CO₂ per year have been sequestered at sites across the United States for decades. DTE is committed to raising the bar for the industry around the safe construction and operation of CO₂ infrastructure, going over and above the safety guidelines of current Department of Transportation standards.
